Hotel stay input needed

We'll be staying in Malaga for a family event, then checking out of our hotel for a two night stay elsewhere before returning to Malaga to fly home after two nights.

We have booked the first night in Ronda and the second night in Tarifa to accommodate a trip that second day to Morocco.
So, at this point. We drive from Malaga to Ronda, explore and stay overnight there. Get up early and drive to Tarifa to catch the mid-morning ferry.
Return later that night and stay in Tarifa. Waking up in the morning to drive to the Malaga airport.

Should we stick with that hotel plan or change destinations? Flight cannot change.

Thanks for any advice on the stays for those two nights.

Prior to finalizing your plans, consider what would happen if weather was bad and the ferries stopped running between Tarifa and Tangier, and you couldn’t make it make back. Also take into consideration that the drive from Tarifa to Malaga is two hours if there is no construction, congestion, or wrong turns.

While I appreciate both of these responses, they do not answer my question. I have two nights, and am planning on going to Morocco and flying out of Malaga. Those two aspects of my itinerary are not changing. Thanks all!

Your question was "Should we stick with that hotel plan or change destinations?" -- am I missing something?

Irrespective of the confusion over your wording, I really would omit Tarifa/Tanger. I used to live not far from Tarifa and have visited Tanger several times. Not worth the trip.
Ronda is great, two nights would not be too much, especially if you can take a drive out of the city as well.

Since your plan is not really subject to change, I have no idea why you asked whether you should change destinations or for advice on the stays for those two nights. I didn’t say don’t go, I just provided a couple things to think about. You clearly don’t want opinions or considerations.

We always hope our trips go according to plan, but the reality is they don’t. If you can’t make it back from Tangier or if there’s are accident on the road to the airport, you will miss your flight. When things go belly up, there needs to be a Plan B. Although you don’t seem open to considerations, maybe put Tarifa and Tangier before Ronda. If there’s an issue getting back from Morocco at least you won’t miss your flight. Ronda would also be 30 minutes closer to the airport.

Hope all works out well with your trip.

Listen to what jaimeelsabio is saying about the ferry. It is not uncommon for them to be canceled because of high winds/waves; it's happened to me. There is no way I would depend on a ferry to get me back to Spain the day before my flight.

So, in answer to your question, I would change destinations. There are plenty of other places to go on the Spanish mainland where you don't have to depend on a ferry to make your flight.

Thanks all - and yes, I do take the ferry into consideration. I appreciate your thoughts. I'm sorry for the confusion.

I guess my question is really more about staying in Ronda and Tarifa. Are there alternatives that would be better for that itinerary? I thought it best to stay near the ferry the night we return to Spain. Is it worth staying in Ronda at all? Perhaps two nights in Tarifa instead? Or does anyone have another destination that would be recommended to access the ferry and then later the Malaga airport?

Thank you all for your comments - I definitely am looking at all of those plans. I've already booked hotels in Ronda and Tarifa and a private tour guide for Morocco. All are able to be cancelled/changed.

Ronda was a favorite of mine, but if you are set on the ferry trip, then I would just stay in Tarifa two nights, but I just find one- night stays to be unpleasant. If the ferry trip gets canceled, there are some gorgeous places nearby!

Thanks valadelphia! I appreciate the advice. Regardless of the hotel stay I am looking forward to visiting Ronda!

We stopped at Tarifa for lunch & to walk around for a couple of hours between our two buses from Estepona to Cadiz. Personally, we weren’t impressed with Tarifa, and I was glad that I hadn’t planned an overnight there. If it is just a place to sleep after your day in Morocco - okay. But, I wouldn’t add your extra day there.

We liked Ronda a lot on a previous trip. If you like classical Spanish guitar, don’t miss his nightly concerts. We heard him in 2017 - extremely talented!
