Hotel recommendations in Zaragoza and Madrid

Hi, 2 seniors looking for hotel recommendations for Zaragoza and Madrid. We are taking the RS Basque tour, looking to book a 2 night stopover before flying home from Madrid. We will have 2 nights in Zaragoza and flying home thru Madrid We have been to Madrid before, so we are only planning two nights there. Any recommendations would be most appreciative.

I recommend Hotel NH Ciudad de Zaragoza, an incredible location for a very reasonable price, directly overlooking the Pilar Basilica and the old Roman walls, in the old town. Recently renovated and very modern.

The best place for tapas in Zaragoza is an area called El Tubo. Another place is a Gourmet Food Market off the Plaza de España, called Puerta Cinegia Mercado.

Since you mentioned that you are seniors, I’ll give you a heads up about El Tubo. When we were in Zaragoza, every El Tubo place we peeked into had no seating, just everyone standing while eating and drinking. No way could I do that. My advice is to get a specific recommendation, unless, of course, you don’t mind standing.

Last year we stayed at what is now B&B HOTEL Zaragoza Centro. It was an Ibis hotel last year. Its location is great, just across the river from the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar. In Madrid we generally stay at Hotel Europa at the Puerta Del Sol. Some friends of ours stayed at Hotel Francisco I in Madrid last May and enjoyed it.

I had a very nice two-night stay at Zarragoza's Hotel Catalonia El Pilar this past May.

Lots of people on this forum love the Europa in Madrid, but I couldn't imagine staying in that location. A friend recently had a good stay at Pestana Plaza Mayor, which I think is a great location. There are a number of good options in Las Letras, on and around Plaza Santa Ana.
