I'd like recommendations for hotels in Barcelona, Granada, Nerja or Ronda, Sevilla, Madrid, and San Sebastian. We like smaller, quaint or boutique hotels, but we also like a good-sized room with a king size bed and reading chair/lamp, and a bit of luxury.
Year ago we stayed at what is now Hotel Soho Boutique Palacio San Gabriel in Ronda and enjoyed it. In Sevilla we stayed at Hotel Amadeus. For luxury, there’s the Parador right at the Alhambra complex. Depending on time of year it can be expensive.
We normally stay at Paradors and have had good experiences. There is one in Nerja.
You should check out Paradores. Some are set in historical buildings which can create some quirky characteristics. There are some that are purpose built, which do not have any quaintness. They are worth considering.
I was in Seville last week and stayed at a small hotel (about 15 rooms) that was new to me. I think I got the best sleep of my life. For me it has the best location in the city.
One of the best hotels I've stayed at in Spain, and I travel here a lot; it is not inexpensive, however:
PALACIO DON RAMON
In Seville I liked Hotel Fernando III https://maps.app.goo.gl/gHiWNNG5HH6BgD1j9
In Madrid I liked Hotel Catalonia Plaza Mayor https://maps.app.goo.gl/UGD7K6uzwgBBSXtDA
And here's one more for Sevilla; I stayed here about a week just before Covid. It's of the type as the DON RAMON, which I linked above. Very small; renovated old palace.....staff will know your name after a night...
I liked the Don Ramon slightly better, though. Ooh, but just saw that you want a large room and neither of those hotels offer very large rooms, unless you book a suite.
I San Sebastián you cannot do better than the MARIA CRISTINA. One of the best hotels in Spain. but it's not a small hotel, it's a grand old-world palace-type hotel. Rooms are large and you can have view of the river.
Look, too, at VILLA SOROS, a bit away from the center. (I've seen it but not stayed there)
Would you mind giving a price range for Madrid, before I offer my own ideas..(?)
