We are spending a few days in Madrid in September. It's our first trip to Spain, and we are looking for hotel recommendations for 2 nights (convenient, easy to walk places, etc)
We liked where we stayed: http://www.jardinesdesabatini.com Overlooks the palacio. Walking distance to Plaza Mayor and the palace. Close to the metro.
This would be my choice:

A popular hotel with many on this forum is Hotel Europa at the Puerta Del Sol. My wife and I have stayed at it a few times. We’ve also stayed at Petit Palace Posada del Peine. Some friends of ours stayed at Hotel Francisco I and enjoyed it. There are plenty of options with an equal number of price points.
We also stayed at the Petit Palace Posada del Piene. Join the hotel membership to book direct for best price and to get the breakfast buffet included for free.
Our favorite hotel in Madrid is the Central Palace Hotel on the Plaza de Oriente. We reserved their “Double Room with Panoramic View”, and it was so nice! Plus our view out the tall windows was the palace - pretty during the day & illuminated at night! Also, have breakfast at the elegant Cafe de Oriente - same building, I think or at least very close.
We strolled over to the Plaza del Sol some evenings, and it’s also handy to Mercado de San Miguel, etc. We took the handy metro to the Prado Museum.
We have also stayed near the Retiro Garden, but we liked the location of the first one so much better.
I liked the Europa and also the Hotel Moderno a couple of blocks west on Puerta del Sol. Both are used by RS tours. Moderno had the better breakfast as I recall.
We loved The Principal, just off of Gran Via.
We stayed in NH Collection Hotel Gran Via in February 2023 and Petite Palace Posada del Peine in April 2023. Both cost around the same but NH Collection was much nicer - superb breakfast, more modern decor and a roof bar. NH Collection was slightly further to walk but only a couple of minutes. Both were very convenient to metro stations.
Stayed at the Petit Palace Posada del Piene just like some of the other posters. Great location that was close to Plaza Mayor, Puerta del Sol and La Mallorquina, a must for pastries. Easy to get to many of the other main sites, too.
I stayed at the Westin once and after staying their once it would not be my choice. If you want a luxury hotel in Madrid there are better options IMHO.
Shortly, I will be staying at Catalonia Puerto del Sol. It is walking distance for most things I am planning to see; ie, Prado, Guernica, Palace, etc.. Great reviews. But I won’t know until I am there. It is worth a look for you.
I'm booked at Hotel Catalonia Plaza Mayor for later this year.
We stayed at the Hotel Opera and i would definitely stay there again. It is still very close to everything, and right next to a Madrid metro station, but was in a quieter neighborhood at night. The only downside was that the A/C didn't really do much. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast spread was delicious.
