Hotel Recommendations in Granada and Seville (or areas to stay)

Hi Folks:

We will be staying for probably 3 nights each in both Granada and Seville. Any suggestions on hotels? We are 2 adults with no children. We prefer to be centrally located rather then off the beaten path. Doesn't need to be 5 star but a decent hotel.

Thanks

In Granada we stayed in Hotel Dauro 2 in Calle Navas. Very nice and close to everything. Lots of restaurants catering to tourist all around.

Any of the Steve's recommendations are good. The Hotel Amadeus in the Santa Cruz neighborhood in Sevilla is great. The annex next door has nice roof top garden. Hotel Anacapri was nice in Granada.

The historic Santa Cruz neighborhood is right next to Seville’s Alcazar and the cathedral—it’s a great location.

In Granada, Aurea Catedral is great. Rooms are big, clean and modern. Location is perfect-- right in the center of town.

In Sevilla we loved Gravina 51. It was our favorite hotel of our Spain trip. Lovely rooms, excellent service, conveniently located on a quiet side street, but close to pretty much everything you'd want to see.

In Seville, we enjoyed staying at Apartamentos Suites Santa Cruz located in Barrio Santa Cruz, which is very centrally located and conveniently located to the Alcazar and the Seville Cathedral. The hotel's main office and reception desk is in Plaza de Dona Elvira, but the apartment is located in a different building at Calle Pimienta, about a block away. This is a pedestrian only area.

We rented a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen. Even though we don't cook while on vacation, we wanted a spacious place to spread out for 4 nights.

My only complaint about Barrio Santa Cruz is that it is very crowded.

Unfortunately, the lovely hotel we stayed at in Granada is permanently closed.

“My only complaint about Barrio Santa Cruz is that it is very crowded.”

Sounds a lot like Yogi Berra’s quote: “Nobody goes there anymore— it’s too crowded!”
Neighborhoods built during the 1100’s-such as Barrio Santa Cruz- were built to accommodate people and horses— not trucks and cars.
The close proximity to Seville’s Alcazar, Cathedral and the Plaza de Espana is a big reason why Barrio Santa Cruz draws so many people.

I am not telling the OP not to stay in Barrio Santa Cruz. We loved our accommodations there. And we visit crowded and popular places, such as Dubrovnik, Santorini, etc. I just want the OP to know Barrio Sant Cruz is not a quiet and uncrowded neighborhood. When we were there, it was very crowded with tour groups. Sometimes we couldn't walk down the narrow lanes because they were jam-packed with tour groups. So we had to wait for them to pass or elbow our way through. Some people don't enjoy staying in these kinds of neighborhoods. They prefer a quieter neighborhood. However, Barrio Santa Cruz is a very convenient location. There is often times a trade off.

Soho Boutique Catedral, it's on a large pedestrian avenue a block north of the cathedral. Rooftop pool is nice. Lots of great food nearby and obviously right in the middle of the main sights. Wasn't expensive either.

For Seville, highly recommend H10 Casa de la Plata. It was our favorite hotel in Andalucia last September. Reception staff were warmly welcoming and helpful. Both the public areas and our room were beautifully appointed and comfortable. The rooftop, with bar and pool, was a nice bonus. Location is great for exploring (as well as close proximity to Bar el Comercio!).
