We plan to travel in Southern Spain during May / June 2015. We plan to be in Cordoba the nights of 29 / 30 May (Friday / Saturday). In the 2014 Spain Guidebook, page 753 - 754, it is mentioned that the expected room rate for the Balcon De Cordoba is approximately Db Euro 140 per night. The quote we have received from Balcon De Cordoba is Euro 770 for two nights or Euro 385 per night for a Double without Terrace. Is this a reasonable variation from the guidebook recommendation given that it is a Friday / Saturday, or should we look elsewhere? We went ahead and booked the reservation, but my understanding is that we can cancel without penalty 2 or more days in advance. Would appreciate some insight on staying in a nice place in Cordoba at a reasonable cost if this is not reasonable.
I was really happy with our choice, Hotel Hesperia de Cordoba. It's a newer place but sits across the Roman bridge from the Mesquita and old quarter, an easy walk and free parking on the street (we had a car). There is a great view of the bridge and Mesquita from the rooftop bar. I'm sure we didn't pay more 100 euro per night for a double (we were there in late April, not sure if the price changes significantly through the seasons) and probably paid something closer to 65.
That seems to be the time for the Cordoba Spring Fair, and there are other festivals earlier in the month.
