I really liked my stay at the Oriente Palace Apartments, which is located in the same square as the Royal Palace. The neighborhood was very pretty and not too chaotic. There is a metro station right around the corner so getting to other areas of the city was easy. Despite the name of the hotel, not all of the rooms are actual apartments, but their website is good about describing each room and it shows a ton of pictures. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

Hello and good luck on your trip. If you’re looking for something that is more of a budget accommodation then my family has stayed on multiple trips at Hostal Gonzalo. This is very close about two blocks from the Paseo Del Prado, and very close to Plaza Santa Ana. My friends who live in Madrid tell me that this is a very safe area, and there are plenty of activities close by. You can walk to Puesto del Sol in about 10 to 15 minutes, depending upon your pace. The Prado museum as well as the Thyssen museum are very close. Overall, it will probably cost you about €100 for a small room with a private bath.

A hostal is an accommodation where a family purchases a floor in a building and then convert that floor into hotel rooms. It is not a hostel, and is a tourist arrangement fairly unique to Spain. They are usually budget friendly and quiet. They do not have any eating facilities, typically, and this one is no different. The proprietor of this place is Javier, and he speaks good English and has been at this location for many years. If you take a look at most of the tour books on Madrid this facility will be listed in each. In short, a great location at a great price. However, if you’re looking for something that is more upscale or with daily breakfast, then this may not be your place. You can obtain breakfast nearby in most any bar. Stop in for a coffee, a pastry, and maybe some orange juice if you feel like you need the extra sugar! Javier can direct you where to go, and also where you can find the best churros close by. I hope that helps.

We stayed in Petit Palace Alcala in December and really enjoyed it. We had a family room. We added on breakfast. I thought for the 4 of us it was a great price and location!
