Hotel help in Barcelona

Hello all,

My wife and I will be going on a cruise out of Barcelona next June, and we are looking at two specific places to stay and hoping for some feedback.

Has anyone recently stayed at Hotel H10 Port Vell, H10 Cubik, or Hotel Lleo? I saw the location of the H10 Port Vell hotel is near the port, and crime can be higher in that area. I am a seasoned traveler, who makes it a point to know my surroundings. I also saw the Hotel Lleo and H10 Cubik are about 10 mins walking distance from each other.

We will be in Barcelona for about 2.5 days and dont have plans to do much prior to the cruise. The only thing we are looking to do prior to the cruise is going to the aquarium for the shark diving. Due to the proximity of the aquarium, I like the Port Vell, but is that really enough to go with that one? I've browsed the forum but didn't find much.. Any and all help is appreciated.

We haven't stayed in those hotels but my family has stayed in the H10 hotels near Plaza Catalunya and were very happy with the service and rooms. We did upgrade to balcony rooms.

Hi there,

Can’t say much about the hotels—I live here, so no need for them! But I can help with locations.

Tip: if you add the hotel addresses, it’ll be easier for people to give feedback. Barcelona really has a lot of hotels, and not everyone will want to Google each one.

Regarding crime, it really depends on where you’re coming from. If you're used to a super quiet town, Barcelona might feel busy and chaotic. If you're from a rougher area, it may feel pretty chill. Most issues here are non-violent (like pickpocketing), especially in touristy areas like Ciutat Vella (El Raval, El Gòtic, Barceloneta). Busy = more pickpockets, not necessarily “dangerous.”

Also, H10 Cubik and Hotel Lleó aren’t far from the Aquarium—just over a mile. A nice walk through the Old City, actually. So being right next to the Aquarium isn’t a huge advantage.

About the shark cage diving—what else do you need to know? https://www.aquariumbcn.com/en/activities-and-experiences/experiences-with-sharks/shark-cage-diving/

When in June are you coming? Might be some fun events around.

Cheers!

Hi Enric,

That's good to know the aquarium isn't that far from Hotel H10 Cubik or Lleo.

We will be there in Mid June 17-20. Is there anything going on in the city around that time?

It sounds like Barcelona is like any other city when it comes to pickpockets and crime. I am from a big city so I am not to stressed over it, I appreciate your help!!

I don't know your preferences, but you've got:

  • several music festivals, like Sònar and Brunch Electronik Barcelona
  • Sopar amb les estrelles, a summer evening experience combining a gourmet dinner with astronomy at the Observatori Fabra, perched atop Tibidabo in Collserola—a spot with breathtaking views over the city.
  • Tast a la Rambla, an annual tapas festival aimed at both locals and visitors. It usually takes place in May or June along Barcelona’s iconic Les Rambles boulevard, featuring around 30 restaurants and 6 pâtisseries offering signature bites.
  • Festa Major de Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera- a festa major is a traditional local festival held in towns and neighbourhoods across Catalonia, featuring days of street celebrations, music, dancing, food, and cultural events honouring the community's patron saint. It's free and you don't need a reservation. Example: https://vimeo.com/286796680?fl=pl&fe=sh
  • also a bunch of arts exhibitions and cultural events -without knowing your style, I wouldn't know what to recommend.

Enjoy!

This past December we stayed at H10 Cubik and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was crisp, clean, quiet and very comfortable, especially given the reasonable price point. The location made it possible to walk to many sites in the city including the Opera House, Mercat Boqueria, Palau de la Música, etc. Every morning we did a short walk to a funky breakfast restaurant called Citizen and had fabulous meals. There is a bus stop a couple of blocks from the hotel which enabled us to ride to Park Guell (~40 minutes), other Gaudi locations, etc. We also took taxis to dinner locations. We will be visiting Andalucia and Madrid next March and plan to stay in H10 hotels in Madrid, Malaga and Seville. We've visited many countries around the world and believe H10 hotels are an excellent mid-priced option.

Enric, those sound really great. I will have to research them.

Can you tell me if there is a store near Via Laietana, 69, Ciutat Vella and Pas de Sota Muralla, 9, Ciutat Vella where I would be able to buy a portable desk fan?

Doogie, yes of course. The whole district is quite dense and there are many (many!) stores all around. Just ask the concierge. You can try at a ferreteria ("fuh-rah-ta-ree-ah", hardware store) or at a tenda de xinos ("ten-dah duh she-noos", dollar shop)
