Hotel Decision - Madrid

I have spent so much time researching hotels in Madrid. We will only be there for 2 nights as we transit to Morocco. It does not have to be luxury ... but clean, with a good shower and bed, a window to let in light, and convenient to museums. We are avid walkers so there is some flexibility.

So many have really good reviews. But, of course, there is always someone who has a complaint like a musty smell (which would be really bad for me).

I am considering ....
-- Room Mate Alicia: good price, good location, good reviews; comments say all rooms have large windows and
-- One Shot Prada 23: great price (I think I picked the correct room type), good location, good reviews (some said it needs updating)

I would like to find a room under $200/nt inc tax if possible. I am certainly willing to go a little higher. It must be NON SMOKING and have a place to drop our luggage. An elevator (small is fine) would be nice.

Others I have considered: Petit Palace Posada del Peine, Hotel Miau, Hotel Catalonia Plaza Mayor, ?????

Many thanks! All thoughts appreciated.

Hi, I'm researching the same for April. One hotel addition - my UK friend stays in IBIS hotels with not complaints, and its near The Prado. I think those you have researched sound good also. If I learn anything I'll post again. By the way, when you use expedia to search, there is an option on the left to click for elevator, I always use that. I'm no longer carrying suitcases up hotel stairs!!!

SLEEP'N Atocha Is a basic hotel well within your budget. It’s a one minute walk to the Reina Sofía museum.

Apartosuites Jardines de Sabatini, Madrid. Directly opposite The Royal Palace. A family run boutique style hotel. The rooms are large with kitchenettes. I suggest a Superior Suite.

I book and pay direct at the hotel, alternatively the usual booking sites, booking.com etc.

I stayed at Hotel Catalonia Plaza Mayor last year and liked the breakfast, room and location. No issues with them holding our luggage and staff were very nice.

I like historic hotels with a lot of character, and they should be centrally located.

We just stayed in the Hotel Atlántico on Calle Gran Via last month. It is a four star hotel with many great reviews.
The hotel is serene inside, and the service is excellent.

I have also stayed in the Palace a few times--very lovely, but more of a splurge. However, it is under construction right now.

There are many choices in Madrid, so I understand the challenge of making a decision. Best wishes!
