We will be spending two nights in San Sebastian (Aug.29-31). Has anyone stayed at the Mercure Monte Igueldo? Other properties we are considering are: Catalonia Donosti, Zenit Convento and Hotel SANSEbay. Price range for both nights: under $1,000.

Hotel Mercure Monte Igueldo is not in the city itself, but at the end of the funicular ride on top of Igeldo mountain. All of them are very nice, but I´d stay in the city.

We will be in San Sebastian in May 2025 for a week to 10 days after touring Portugal and Spain. We are looking for a hotel near the beach and old town. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We do not need a fancy place but do like a bathroom in the room--not shared. Thank you.
Just in case you plan to stay in Donostia-San Sebastian for the beach, take into account that it´s a rainy city and beach weather is not always (and less in May) a possibility. It´s a working city of 185,000h with three beaches, but do not expect any amusements, bars or anything near the beach as it´s very far from being a beach resort, water in May will be quite cold. A beautiful city with great food atmosphere, but just wanted to let you know, as many people think that D-SS is a beach resort town...and it´s not the case.
Also, bear in mind that lodging in D-SS is expensive any time of the year.
