Hostel advice for a young traveller - I'm too old

I've been giving travel advice to a 20 year old doing study abroad in Granada for 3 weeks. She wants to take some time and see Madrid and Barcelona on her way back home.

I'm good on trains, ATMs, cell phones, museums, food, and electronics but my euro backpacking and hostel knowledge is in black and white and not to be trusted. Anyone have some good hostelling sites - both advice and places to stay in Madrid and Barcelona - that I can pass on to her?

Thanks!

For Barcelona, the Sant Jordi Hostel Sagrada Familia is pretty good, a few of my friends stayed there when I lived nearby. They have a nice community of people and great facilities including some cool indoor skateboarding stuff too! :)

It's located close to the Sagrada Familia, but they have other locations across the city as well.

Here is their website:

I'm old too, but when my son was planning a trip to New Zealand a few years ago he found the ratings and reviews on hostelworld.com very helpful
