Homebase Malaga and Seville

We would like to spend the month of March 2019 out of the MN winter and are considering Andalusia. Our main objective is to be in a warmer climate. While we will take day trips from both cities, we will spend most of our time in Malaga and Seville, enjoying what each city has to offer and just relaxing. We realize Spain is large and we have no expectation of doing a grand tour. We are thinking of two weeks each in the two cities; flying into Malaga initially and eventually departing after a few days in Madrid.
I am interested in hearing from people who have spent more than a week to two wks in Malaga and/or Seville. Did you feel the local sights were enough to keep you interested for your time there? Are there plenty of walks/hikes to take in these areas? We are active in our early 60's and like museums, architecture and walking around the city/coast. We are not planning on renting a car.
I have a friend who has been to Malaga a number of times and it is his favorite city of all his travels.
We are also considering Villefranche. We spent a week there in October and know there is plenty to keep us busy with day trips and walking to towns along the coast.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Will you have a car? I can't speak for Seville as I haven't spent any time there but from Malaga there is plenty to see within a maximum of 2 hours drive that could easily fill two weeks. I can't advise about hiking as the last thing I want to do in Spain is go hiking! I go for a bit of history, lots of food and plenty of sunbathing/pool lounging.

We're in Marbella now and it's certainly shorts and t-shirt weather and the kids are braving the unheated pools however we've also experienced rain this time of year on previous occasions but it's certainly a big improvement on a MN winter.

Thanks for your response. Just edited that we aren't planning on a car. Hiking might be an exaggeration, but we do like to walk!
It sounds like you are having a wonderful time!

If you don't have a car there is a wealth of tours available in the area around Malaga. Trips to Ronda, Gibraltar, Cordoba, Seville, Nerja, Granada, Tangier and many more. Obviously these all mount up substantially financially, all of them can be undertaken by car for significantly. Driving in Spain is no different to driving in America (in my experience) although if you're used to real rural driving it might be a bit of a shock.

I would suggest ...

•Malaga - 10 nights (with days to Ronda & Nerja)
•Granada - 3 nights
•Sevilla - 10 nights (with days to Cordoba, Cadiz & Jerez)
•Madrid - 5 nights (with days to Toledo & Segovia)

I think Andalucía is your best bet, weather-wise, but if you would like some comments on Villefranche, you'll need to specify which one you have in mind. There are at least 16 in France and one in Italy.

We stayed in Sevilla for 5 days last October (and a night in Cordoba), so I could let you know that Sevilla would be a good spot for a week. It was one of the more expensive towns, although Spain was overall less expensive.

We just stayed one night in Malaga, so I can’t give you enough information to make that decision. Don’t miss Ronda. We were there two nights and enjoyed the hiking around the bridge, the town, and the guitar music.
