I will be travelling this summer with my elderly mother and young daughter (and husband), so I thought an apartment might work better than a hotel. Anyone have any advice/warnings regarding Homeaway in Seville?

Summer heat in Andalucia is likely to be brutal. Pay careful attention to reviewers' comments about the quality of the air conditioning. Be sure there are reviews from summer renters; that's low season in Andalucía, and it really doesn't matter how wonderful the apartment was at some other time of the year.
A convenient location will also be key. You'll want to retreat to your rental during the hottest part of the day.
I think with a child involved, access to a pool would be a huge asset.
If you don't have to go to Andalucía in the summer, I would re-consider.

Yes, do it. We rented with them and loved our apartment. I have rented with HA/VRBO many times and all experiences were great.
