Holiday's in Spain

Hello Friends,

My name is Rudy and I love researching, going online, reading books, planning, re-planning, updating, changing and then starting all over again! Unfortunately I'm reaching the "my brain is fried" part of planning our trip to Madrid, Sevilla and Granada and it only September, so I'm going to the experts and here are a few questions and some info. Madrid first. I'll post back later for info on Sevilla and Granada and the trains.

Dates - 25 Dec - Jan 1 (Madrid 25, 26, 30, 31), Seville (27, 29), Granada (28)
Who's going: Wife, Daughter - Age 29, Son - Age 22 and me!

Ready?

We arrive on the 25th. What do we do on Christmas Day? I'm concerned that there won't be anything open or places to visit and eat. Should I purchase a 2-day Tourist Travel Pass upon arriveal for each of us for Zone A or Zone T as we are planning to go to El Escorial on the 26th?

For the first time in our lives we are spending New Years Eve in another country. Where should we go to celebrate? Should we make reservations if we decide on dinner or should we tapas the night away? Where are the best locations to be amongst the people counting down the last minutes of the year?

I think that's it for now. I'm already exhausted :)

What are your arrival and departure details? In to, and out of Madrid I take it?
I would head straight to Cordoba on your arrival, making Xmas Day a travel day, but leaving you ready to attack the Mezquita on the 26th. Consolidate Madrid into 3 nights at the end of your trip leading up to NYE.

25 Arrive Madrid, AVE train to Cordoba (1 nt)
26 (am) Mezquita
26 (pm) AVE Train to Sevilla (2 nts)
27 Sevilla sights - Alcazar, Cathedral
28 (am) Train to Granada (1 nt)
28 (pm) Albaicin, Granada
29 (am) Alhambra
29 (pm) Train to Madrid (3 nts)
30 El Escorial
31 Madrid sights - Royal Palace. Prado
01 Depart Madrid

Puerta del Sol is the focus of the Madrid New Year countdown. Make sure you have 12 green grapes at hand.
