hiring a car/driver (uber) to go from Malaga to Granada

Do you absolutely need to hire a driver?
Bus service is excellent between the two cities.

The distance is 75 miles. I'm sure taxis make that run relatively often. But there are also a few very fast (72-minute) trains available on weekdays. There are other rail options that take longer, requiring a transfer in Antequera. You'd have to get to the Maria Zambrano station to get a train, but the airport isn't far away.

It connects travelers with needs like yours to local transportation companies. https://mydaytrip.com/ I've always assumed it would be a bit cheaper if you avoid using a middleman, but I've read no complaints about this company from anyone on this forum.

You can take the ALSA Bus. It's about a 1.5 hour ride. Or take the train.

I agree with others the bus works just fine. However if you are getting into Malaga late or just don't want a bus I have used Sun Trips in Spain and it went off without any issues. J
