hiking in Spain?

Hi everyone!

Any suggestions on hiking in Spain? We are traveling from Paris down to Spain, likely starting in Madrid and traveling mostly southern Spain... but nothing is set in stone yet! So open to being in northern Spain if great hiking suggested. We are 35-40 years old and pretty healthy.

For example, we have loved hiking and walking around:
Zion National Park Utah (loved being in the water in The Narrows, and up high at Angels Landing and hiking up and down and around the hoodoos)
Joshua Tree California
Adirondacks New York
Lake Plitvices Croatia
Kauai Hawaii

Thanks,
YuLing

YuLing - I think you should consider Northern Spain, especially Basque Country. I did not hike but drove on this last visit but this region is just breathtaking - from mountains to coastlines and vineyards to medieval towns. There is the Oma Painted Forest in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve as well as the Gorbeia National Park. There are breathtaking trails along the coastline and one of sights I missed on this trip is San Juan de Gaztelugatxe. The one caveat I have is that knowing some Spanish or having a good translation app is essential if you want to go deep into Basque Country.

Caminito Del Rey sounded interesting and I had filed that thought away for when we get back.

There are plenty of nature activities in the Picos de Europa area, so you may want to do some research to see what all is there. Of course, you could always walk a portion of the Camino de Santiago. There are some beautiful views from parts of it.

Hi. If you decide southern spain check out Antequera. Its about an hour from Malaga. You could hike the Camanita del Rey which is about an hours drive from there. Also El Torcal is only a 20 minute drive from town. Fabulous park through otherworldly limestone formations. We loved it. Antequera is a great town to spend a few nights.
