High speed train booking

Hi. I’m flying into Madrid in the fall with a connecting flight to Malaga. I have two hours but am concerned I may miss my connection if EES processing is slow..
My backup plan is the high speed train. I’m wondering whether I’ll be able to buy a train ticket on such short notice if I miss my connecting flight.
I’d appreciate any advice on the best way to proceed should this situation come to pass.
Thanks.

You'll be fine with 2 hours to make a connecting flight, although if your flight in is delayed enough, all bets are off obviously.

I would have the renfe, ouigo, and iryo apps on your phone and data coverage so you can buy a ticket the moment you miss your flight.

I last visited Spain in 2022 and have another trip for October, 2026.

My experience was that the renfe website was an aggravation to use. I ended up using trainline in 2022 and will probably use it again. There was no big difference in price and I could compare all of the different train companies and buses at the same time in Trainline. Good luck.

My backup plan is the high speed train.

Your backup plan is the next flight to Malaga. The airline has to rebook you when you miss a connection, and there are other flights.
