Help with wifi in hotel?

We made it to Spain, yay!!!

And I have a question for you saavy iphone users and maybe it's the same for all cell phones but I have an iphone.....

Is there a way to connect automatically at my hotel instead of having to reenter the login information? I took a nap in my hotel room and when I awakened I had to log in again for wifi. And maybe I can't do this in Spain but in the U.S. whenever I visit somewhere (like my grocery store) where I've logged in on previously I never have to reenter the login information. My phone remembers me and I'm automatically logged into their wifi every time I'm in that store. Can I do that here in my hotel? When I click on "information" I see that it's set to "auto-login" but that isn't what's happening. I tried turning on the "auto-join" but that didn't work either.

Thanks for any help!! It's a gorgeous day in Malaga!!

It should auto-connect. At some hotels you may need to login each day, but within the same day, auto-connect should work, although sometimes it takes a few minutes to do so.

My provider is Sprint and there are no fees for incoming or outgoing texts overseas, and it has free data overseas, but only 2G speeds. Faster speeds do cost. Anyway, it may be a pain, and the way the hotel has its router/service configured, so you just bite the bullet and log in when you want to use WiFi. Maybe the signal is really weak in your room and that’s the reason it won’t auto-connect. Try down in the lobby to see if that helps. If there is more than one hotspot/access point, try using a different one. At least the hotel has WiFi.

My experience with hotel Wi-Fi has varied considerably. I have 4-year-old Android devices, and connecting has ranged from automatic to having to close all open browsing tabs to even get to the log-in screen. The Premier Inns in the UK have been some of the most irritating places I've stayed as far as Wi-Fi goes.

With luck you'll have a better experience at your other hotels.

It's a two year old iphone SE and typically auto-connects and I see that option is checked. Well, hubby already incurred a fee for a text he received from our daughter. Not that big of a deal but I only got the international plan on my phone because the fees are outrageous. Maybe it's that my phone is older?

Well, thanks for your replies. I appreciate it.

I thought of something: remove the auto lock on my phone so that it doesn't sleep. That will prevent it from logging off of wifi. not a great solution but better than before.

A lot of hotel Wi-Fi systems are configured to kick you off when they sense inactivity. In my experience, spending time composing a post on this very board often counts as inactivity. I'm sorry to say that I don't think tweaking a setting on your phone will change the situation. However, I am not remotely a techie, and it cannot hurt to try.

Yes, some hotel WiFI systems are setup to log you off after a period of inactivity. A big PITA for the guests! It happens to me once in a while also depending on the hotel.

I don't have a good solution, but feel free to express your displeasure at the hotel. The more the year about it, the more likely they are to change it in the future.

I thought I'd update this with what happened. Turns out their wifi was not working properly. Gosh, never thought of that! HA!!

After they fixed it (on our last day there, oh well!), it did log me in automatically. Just like the hotel I'm currently at in Madrid does. The "perils" of traveling I guess :)

Having a great trip with one more day in Madrid tomorrow. Then home to my cat Frankie on Sunday, who I miss terribly!! Nice to get away, and it will be nice to get home.

Thanks to everyone who helped me along the way with questions for this trip. Really appreciate it!!
