My wife and I are planning to spend 3-4 days in Majorca, Spain next summer and I am looking into places to stay. We have both been on 2 Rick Steves tours and several European trips on our own and have found both his guide books and this forum very helpful. If someone has stayed on Majorca please let me know where and if you liked it. We love bed & breakfasts type places. I'm planning so far ahead because in my reading I found that places tend to get booked up pretty far ahead in the summer there.
where on majorrca are you planning to stay.. ? I think you should narrow it down first.. are you just going to stay in Palma.. or visit another town
Weve stayed in Palma once ( loved it.. but went before it got super busy , in early june) , but two other times we stayed in Cala D'Or which is in our top five list of places we love in Europe ( Naxos and Paris come ahead, then Dublin and Tossa De Mar )
Picking the right town is important.. some are sleepy villages .. some are raving party towns in summer.. We are well past the raving party stage but enjoy a small town with lots of cafes and restaurants.. walkable from end to end.. but not tiny.. and great cove beaches.. Cala D'Or has that .
However we prefer hotels so cant help with a b@b
We stayed in Palma de Mallorca in hotel HM Jaime III which was fine. It was a three night visit at Christmastime. The breakfast was included in our reasonable room rate and it was delicious and had lots of choices. Our room was satisfactory and area was convenient for walking. The decor was modernistic and not much to my personal taste but my overall impression of the hotel was very favorable and I have recommended it to other family members and friends. We visted the small town of Valledemossa and loved it. We did it as a daytrip from Mallorca taking the public bus. It was a lovely town. Very picturesque. It is the type of smaller town where I like to explore and I imagine it has plenty of small hotels, bnbs. We wanted to take the tren de Soller but it was closed for maintainance. I would certainly do that if you have the opportunity. The city of Palma is pretty. Beautiful cathedral, scenic waterfront area, castles, old town, Arab baths, etc. Two of my sons have been there on other occasions with friends and chose to stay on the far side of the island, one at a resort and one rented an apartment. They liked it but were more interested in the beach. The island is very scenic.
