We are in initial planning for a 6 week trip to Spain and maybe a bit of SW France in April and May 2024. We are in our late 60’s early 70’s. Fairly seasoned travelers. Don’t want crowds or heat. Are thinking mostly trains if possible. Last year we spent 6 weeks in Italy and Switzerland only using trains and loved it. Only have carry on bags.
We were in northern Spain and Portugal in 2018 and would like to do northern Spain again. We were in Barcelona and Pyrenees in 2006 and would like to do some of this again. And it’s been over 30 years since we were in Granada, Cordoba and Seville so definitely want to do these again.
So our concept - we can figure out number of days for each later. We not too interested in basing out of say Madrid and doing day trips. Would prefer to spend a night or two in lesser places like Toledo, Segovia, etc.
Fly into Barcelona
Madrid
Segovia
Toledo
Granada
Cordoba
Seville
Salamanca (based on other RS Forum input) do we need a car for this western edge?)
Picos de Europa
Bilbao
San Sebastián
Torla and Pyrenees
Toulouse fly out. If still time spend a few days in this area. Albi.
Would love any feedback. I did save and read the post on Spain and Portugal by train.
