Help - Malaga or Granada???

Hi,

My husband and I have two nights and can't decide between Malaga or Granada, or somewhere in between. We are coming from Barcelona/Seville/Ronda, and heading to Madrid after this stop. Plan to rent a car when we leave Seville until Madrid, so we need to consider parking when finding a spot. We are ultimately looking to relax, enjoy the local culture, tapas and wine - we will not be basing our decision on the museums/art.

I should also add that the two days are June 11-13, so coming quick and also over a weekend...

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

If rest and relaxation are higher priority than museums/history/high culture, then go with Malaga.
Malaga has pretty easy access to the beach, and caters to the R&R-seeking traveler.
Insider tip -- there are two locations for Pepa y Pepe in Malaga, one is more for families, the other for a younger crowd. The latter is a real find.

Avi's right. The reason people go to Granada is to see the Alhambra. If that's not on your list then Malaga is where you should go.

Unless there are places you want to visit between Malaga and Madrid, return the car when you get to Malaga and take the train to Madrid. It's about 2.5 hours by train, over 6 hours driving, plus traffic and pit stops.

We stayed at a villa near Frigiliana and did a day trip to Granada and the Alhambra. It was a one hour drive there (to the Alhambra, a bit further to Granada). The Alhambra was nice but I wouldn't necessarily recommend Granada otherwise. So if you aren't interested in the Alhambra, I'd recommend staying in or near Malaga. The only ticket we've ever gotten was in Granada - we found it to be quite confusing and a camera caught us doing the wrong thing.
