Heat in Barcelona in mid July

Anyone visit Barcelona in July this year? Looking at a visit next July and wondering if the heat is over bearing or the humidity? Thanks for any advice.

July and August are hot months indeed, and humidity -when present, it's not every day!- makes it even more uncomfortable. In fact, late June to late Sep can be hot and sometimes humid.

I believe my two previous trips to Barcelona (decades ago, pre-global warming) were in late May, and I remember some wet days that were really uncomfortably cool for cold-natured me. I was surprised at how hot it felt August 1-11 of this year when I think the temperature maxed out around 85 F. It reminded me of Washington DC in summer, which is not a good thing. I think I must have hit one of the humid periods. Wonderful city, though. It helps a lot that no matter where you're walking, you're not far from a fabulous building.

If you can avoid July, and especially August, then please do. The temperature is oppressive, resulting in diminishment of energy to enjoy the visit. Yes, people do visit during these months and find ways to make the most out of their visit, but I am advocating striving to avoid the heat. If you must go during these months then please consider the following:
- recognize the need to take large quantities of fluids, commencing the day before you arrive. Public water is safe and great to drink.
- insure your hotel/apt has functional air conditioning.
- defy the urge to make the most out of every minute of day light and do take afternoon siestas
- on the other hand take advantage of staying out late and learn of evening activities to participate
- do a fantastic job of studying what, where and when you desire to spend your time. Dive deep into asking others for help in defining your journey.
Finally, regardless of the month you travel, please recognize the greatest memories can be gained by exteractions with people.
