Have you stayed somewhere great in Barcelona?

I'd love to hear about it! I am traveling to Barcelona with my husband and teenager at the end of May. It seems like a lot of hotels are already booked up for our dates. We were hoping to stay in the El Born district, but are open to other suggestions. Looking for a safe, interesting and fairly central neighborhood. There are some nice apartments for rent on Airbnb and VRBO - are those a reliable option for the most part? In searching past posts on this forum, I see that there has been a crackdown on unregistered vacation rentals there, and want to make sure I get something reliable. Hoping to spend around $250 per night for the 3 of us. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

We are going in a few weeks and we booked the Banys Oriental. I know you don't have much time, but I can let you know when I get back if it's as good as it looks!

We are going in about a month, and will stay at Hotel Casa Camper. We wanted to be in or near the old town, and the Rick Steves recommended hotels were either sold out or more than we wanted to spend for a week. The apartments I saw on Airbnb seemed to be too far away from the old town. The Casa Camper reviews on trip advisor sound overwhelmingly great, but we have not yet been there, so I cannot comment. I believe this hotel was recommended in Lonely Planet's guidebook. If you book a little ahead or are staying for a week or more, you may get a discount. Some of the rooms have a unique set up which may work well in your situation, but be sure you read about them on the website. Breakfast is included and they have a 24 hour snack bar available in the lobby which might be nice for your son :)

I don't know how "nice" you are looking but for European nice on a budget, check out Mare Nostrum. Perfect location directly overlooking the promenade and located directly in front of the subway. Nice private rooms. But the location and view was worth more than anything. I don't know how many days you plan on spending...I.e., needing a kitchen. but if only for a few days, definitely worth looking at.
