Has anyone been to Gibraltar?

I got to visit Gibraltar for a day while on a cruise, and we struggled to find enough to do in the 6 hours we were there. We taxied to the top of the rock, saw the apes, toured through the caves, walked around and looked in the shops, had some fish and chips, and that was all she wrote.

I might base for two days but not two weeks. It is too small and too restricted.

Not a good idea, crossing the border to get to anywhere else taking time out of your day and the return. You could spend some time in a queue in a car if the Spanish border agency have another clampdown on searching for cigarette smugglers or politically against Brits/Gibaltarians.
And, as above, I only see value and interest in Gibraltar for a day or two.

Will you be driving or relying on public transport? Note that most of the south coastline is served by bus rather than train. Trains run northbound from Algeciras, Cadiz, and Malaga.

Thanks for the info on the trains. The plan is to fly into Lisbon and then take a train to Lagos where we will rent a car. We hope to take a train from Lagos to somewhere around Ronda and then rent another car. Then we plan to take a train from the Ronda area to Madrid to fly back to the US.
