Granada -where to stay

I am unfamiliar with the city and looking for the right area to stay with my family of 5-two adults with three teenagers. Want a safe area near restaurants and shops. One apartment I found was right near the Cathedral/San agustin Market. Another one was near Calle Martinez Campos in the center of Granada. Thank you!

My first visit I stayed right on Carrera Del Darro just past (east) of plaza Nueva/plaza Santa Ana. This was an absolutely perfect location - easy walk everywhere, near the minibus to the Alhambra, restaurants everywhere.

Other times I have stayed in the Albayzin (near mirador San cristobal and then near plaza larga). Both good locations as well. I love wandering the Albayzin so that’s my ideal location in Granada. Lots of hidden squares, restaurants, it’s just it’s own unique thing.

Near the cathedral is a nice area. I prefer to stay closer to the Albayzin because that’s what makes Granada unique (cathedral area is similar to other nice areas in Spain). But this area is close enough to everything that I wouldn’t hesitate to stay there if I found a great place.
Calle Martinez Campos is father out from the big tourist things to do, I don’t know the area too well. I seem to recall it being fine, safe, etc, but newer and less charming than the center. But don’t take my word on that.

I can’t suggest a specific hotel, but for a family of 5 I would look at apartments. Airbnb or booking.com.

We (family of 5) stayed here last month:
Genteel Home Plaza Nueva

It's a 3 BR apartment right behind the Plaza Nueva -- perfect to walk to all the major sights (including the Alhambra) or catch a bus or taxi right off the Plaza Nueva. We LOVED staying here. Giant terrace with drop-dead view (the pictures in the booking.com ad were even better in person), great host and check-in/out process, elevator, very comfortable apartment for 5 people.

Enjoy your trip! Granada is my favorite place in Spain; we stayed a week. I wrote a trip report if you would like more details: Trip Report: Our two week family vacation to Spain

Thank you all! DebVT- it looks like three bedrooms are not available but they have a few one bedrooms. Do the renters owner many apartments in the same building? Would these one bedroom apartments have the same view? Thank you!

I can’t speak to the view for the other apartments... there is a pretty tall church across the street from the apartment building, between it and the Alhambra. I would think anything on the lower floors wouldn’t have much of a view. Definitely ask — I found the agency to be very responsive; I liked all my interactions with them.

Even if the view isn’t there, the location is fantastic and the building is easy to access. I’d still think it would be a great place to stay.

Too bad the 3 BR isn’t available, though — I would be happy in a tent on that terrace!

You could also ask if they have similar apartments in close-by locations. They have their own website; google “Genteel Home Granada.” I would not hesitate to rent from them again.

Good luck!

P.S... just wanted to add that I 100% agree with Mira’s recommendations on where to stay around Granada. Plaza Nueva/Albaicin/cathedral areas are are all very central to the sights you’re likely to be interested in seeing.

Just be aware that if you stay farther up in the Albaicin, you will need to do more uphill/downhill walking to access the other parts of Granada, but if you’re fine with that, I agree that it would be fun to stay there (and you would possibly have more options for apartments with views).

Danielle,
My mom and I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Anacapri near Plaza Nueva. Plaza Nueva is centrally located near the cathedral and the minibuses to the Alhambra and the Albacín.

Don’t forget to book your Alhambra tickets way in advance; up to 3 months in advance for best time selection.

Enjoy your time in beautiful Spain!🌼
