Granada to Toledo via van service

7 of us (5 adults, 2 teens) need to travel from Granada to Toledo. It looks like the train (with change in Madrid) takes a total of 7 hours.

But it appears that we could hire a van with driver and it will be 3.5-4 hours. The additional cost for the van is acceptable. My main concern is whether will be tightly packed in a smallish van.

Any experience with a van hire between the 2 cities? Any particular van service to recommend?

The van option does give us the flexibility to stop along the way. One van service recommended Ubeda, Jaen, Consuegra, Castillo de Bury Al-Hammam. Any suggestions?

I've piled into some inter-city vehicles with a bunch of strangers in Morocco, so I'd have no problem doing what you're considering. I have no suggestions for transportation services in Spain, though.

Of your possible stops, I've only been to Ubeda and Jaen. Jaen is nice enough, but Ubeda is considerably more interesting, I think. It's a Renaissance city, thus very different from what you will have seen elsewhere in Andalucia. It's also known for ceramics, but the shops probably close during the middle of the day.

The places directly along the route are Jaén, Baños de la Encina for the Bury Al-Hamman Castle, and Consuegra. Úbeda is a 40 minutes drive off the primary route. Of the places you mentioned I’ve only been to Consuegra. I’ll be visiting the rest in a month or so.

If you’re only moderately interested in castles, you could visit the one in Consuegra that is right by the windmills and skip the other. That would also free up some time for another stop. Look at things to do in both Jaén and Úbeda to determine which has more things of interest to you. I’d think you’d spend 3-4 hours minimum in either. I have more things bookmarked to see in Úbeda than Jaén, and Úbeda is a UNESCO World Heritage city. Consuegra can be a fairly quick stop of 30 minutes or so if you don’t go into the castle.
