Granada to Toledo - How to get there?

Hello there!

We are trying to get from Granada to Toledo on December 29; and we can't figure out what's the best way to get there.

Doesn't seem to be a train or bus option that makes any sense.

So far our options are to do a shared car service via BlaBla, but it has a lot of stops along the way adding 2.5 ours to our trip. Yuck.

We're thinking of renting a car just for the day. We haven't found many economical car options. Any advice here?

Or is there some other mode we're not thinking of?

Thanks!

Natalie

It's very easy - By rail , Granada to Madrid ( Atocha station ) . When you arrive at Granada station , there is a bus substitution on the one hour leg to Antequerra Santa Ana . Don't worry - rail staff will guide you onto the bus and at Antequerra , into the station . There, you will board your train to Madrid . At Madrid Atocha , you will transfer to the train for Toledo . Buy your tickets in advance - details easily available here - http://www.seat61.com/Spain-trains.htm

Unfortunately, Toledo is connected by rail only to Madrid, so involving a train means going to Madrid and backtracking. The same with flying.

If you can delay the trip by one day, until Friday, December 30, there's a decent once-a-week option in the form of an ALSA bus. It departs at 11 AM and arrives at 4:30 PM. I've taken ALSA often and found the buses quite comfortable.

I'm sorry that I can't offer any car-rental advice. You may be running into issues due to heavy holiday bookings. If you do end up renting a car, you might make a virtue of necessity and do a bit of sight-seeing along the way, if you can keep your luggage secured and out of sight. The historic cities of Baeza and Ubeda are said to be very nice, and they aren't far off the direct driving route.

Take the train. The distance is far enough that driving doesn't make much sense and I'm not sure if Toledo has many car rental options for the drop off. You simply connect through Madrid. When making RENFE reservations, you need to make two trips: first from Granada to Madrid Puerto de Atocha and then from Atocha to Toledo. You can get discounted rates for advanced purchase on the trip to Madrid. The line to Toledo is essentially a commuter line with no discount. That ticket can even be bought once at Atocha Station.

Natalie,

You can easily travel from Granada to Toledo (via Madrid) as suggested by Steven, Acraven & Douglas, via train.

If you want to break up the long trek, you may consider traveling Granada >> Córdoba (via train or bus), spend an overnight, then travel to Toledo (via Madrid) the following day.

Hope this helps!
