I am considering booking an early morning IR train from Granada that arrives in Antequera-Santa Ana at 8:13. There is a 10 minute transfer time to an AVE train to Madrid. Is a 10 minute transfer even possible with one suitcase to manage? I'm not familiar with the platform layout in Antequera, and I worry that the smallest delay will make the transfer impossible.
Book the first leg arriving at Antequera-Santa Ana at 8:13 from Granada separate it gives you more time.
Then book the Antequera-Santa Ana to Madrid the one that leaves at 9:26 instead of 8:23
Why not book your train ticket directly from Granada to Madrid?
There's no need to book two separate train tickets for this route (Granada > Madrid)
Due to railway renovations around Granada, this route is by Bus/Train combination which basically means the following:
You will board a bus (provided by Renfe), at Granada's train station,
which will take you to Antequera Santa Ana's train station. When you arrive to Antequera Santa Ana, you will be guided to the
train which will take you the rest of the journey to Madrid.
BTW, make sure you book your Alhambra tickets 3 months in advance for best time selection.
Enjoy your time in Spain!
Edit to add:
If you're booking your train tickets on Renfe.com, make sure you pay with PayPal!
As Priscilla says, the bus from Granada to Antequera is run by Renfe, and is coordinated with the train leaving from Antequera to Madrid. So, just book it all as one ticket, Granada to Madrid.
I found this tutorial necessary for booking Renfe tickets: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g187514-c80518/Madrid:Spain:Buying.Renfe.Tickets.Online.html I also had to use Paypal as my credit card would not go through.
Thank you, everyone, for the advice!
