Has anyone done the bus and how was it?
Were there bathrooms on board?
The bus is 5 hours but 1/3rd of the price.
The train is 4 hours but includes an 1 hour + 20 on a bus and you can get up and walk around.
You can see pictures of the bus interior on their website. 3 years ago (when the train was still a single journey), I chose the train because the schedule fit better into my plan.
In general, European buses have a toilet for emergencies. They also have a rest stop every 2-2.5 hours, where you can walk around, use the toilet, buy food and drinks.
Add for the bus - extra time and €uro and cents, for another bus or two or taxi, depending where you stay in Granada, as the bus station is on the edge of the city. The train/bus combination, presently being run, will pick up at the train station near central.
We have done a number of bus trips in Spain in part because the train system is not as extensive as rest of Europe. It is tighter seating than the train and you obviously cannot get up and move around as easily but the buses are fine. Bathrooms are on board. I think or what I remember is that bus station and train station are about equal distance from the town center. The one small item that I like about the buses is that you get to see the cities/towns more close up than via train. Some of the little towns that you stop in are interesting or often times the scenery is better from a bus.
To clarify, Renfe provides a "shuttle" bus while train service is suspended because of the upgrade works. That bus leaves from the Granada train station, which is pretty close to the old town center.
If you take the train to Madrid, you can easily transfer at the station to the cercanias or metro to continue to your hotel in Madrid. So that may be easier. On the other hand, if the price is only 1/3 of the train price, the difference should pay for taxis in both cities.
