Hello fellow travelers! We will be in Granada in mid June and then head to Barcelona. We had planned to take the direct train from Granada to Barcelona. Through the end of May the direct train leaves at 8:10. Renfe just released the schedule for June and there is a direct train leaving at 16:20. Will Renfe add another direct train in the morning for June or do you all think the afternoon train will be the only one? We will fly if there won’t be a morning train. Thank you for your input!
Granada is a little bit out of the way. If you are going to fly consider getting the bus from Granada to Malaga and then a flight from Malaga to Barcelona.
I don’t know about adding future trains—Renfe has only just started publishing schedules with more than 60 anticipation.
I’d disagree with AussieNomad. Malaga’s airport have have more flights, but Granada’ 2-3 non-stops to Madrid per day making an added 2hr+ bus needlessly cumbersome.
Vueling has 3 or 4 flights a day from Granada to Barcelona, so there's no need to go to Malaga to get a non-stop flight.
Thank you for your helpful replies! We will probably take one of the Vueling flights from Granada to Barcelona. Do you all think we need to be at the airport two hours early for a domestic flight?
Annie, it’s a smaller airport, but I probably wouldn’t cut it any closer than 90 minutes.
Thank you Scudder!
Hi - I'm planning for this same route in May. We decided to do a flight from Barcelona to Granada. Time wise it maps out to be similar length of overall travel when you account for transit to and from the airports, but decided the mid afternoon time was preferable so we could squeeze another morning into Barcelona. With the flight it would also be less continuous sitting.
