I haven’t seen any posts about the effects of the recent earthquake in Granada in terms of areas that were hardest hit etc. We’re going to be there in early October and haven’t heard anything from where we’re staying so I’m guessing (?) it’s ok. Has anyone been there recently and if so what should we be aware of? Any other tips are appreciated! We already have tickets the Alhambra and I know they’ve had to reroute the tour somewhat. Thanks all!

Having lived in LA for over 30 years, a 5.8/5.9 earthquake is not a big deal unless it is shallow and the epicenter happens to be right under your feet. The aftereffects of a quake depend very much on local preparedness and building codes. Granada being in the most seismically active zone of Spain, the recent quake is not a surprise. It is also an old city. This story says the Alhambra was closed that day.

Who knows what the situation will be in October. Also, no telling whether there will be another quake in the future. Best to monitor local news and check with your tour company.

The latest aftershocks are now around magnitude 2–3, so it seems that things are gradually settling down. The area is quite “used to”, if we can put it that way, having small earthquakes fairly regularly without any serious consequences.
In any case, if it would make you feel more at ease, check a local news site such as Granada Digital (https://www.granadadigital.es/). If there’s nothing about it on the front page, it generally means there’s nothing particularly significant to report. Within the inherent unpredictability of earthquakes, of course.
