Granada : Hotel recommendations?

Hi there - we're planning to spend 3 nights there in October. Visiting the Alhambra both once during the day and once at night will be key for us, so I am guessing that a hotel not too far away would be ideal but am not sure. Since we don't yet have Alhambra tickets, a hotel that could get them for us would be great! (I will contact them in advance to check, hoping a resourceful concierge will be able to help).

We're not travelling on a budget as it's both our 20th wedding anniversary and my 60th birthday, though we do want to be sure our money is well spent. We prefer to go independent rather than chain, so we're thinking smaller/boutique. Good internet access from within the room is a must, as we will still be checking into work here in Canada. We won't have a car so walking distance to major attractions/key parts of the city is important.

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

TIA - R.

We were very pleased with Hotel Anacapri. It is in the center of the city. ˜Need to take a short taxi ride to the Alhambra. When you get there you will see why.

If you want to splurge, consider the Parador right at the Alhambra complex. It has a restaurant and there are a couple restaurants within about a 10 minutes walk. It is not downtown, but busses run frequently and drop off and pick up near the cathedral. It is pricey. You would get to experience the Alhambra without all the tourists, and it would be very quiet, but you might not get to see as much of the rest of the city as you would with a downtown hotel. You can check it out at the Paradors website: parador.es/en

Hi Rob,
My mom and I enjoyed our stay at Hotel Anacapri near Plaza Nueva and the cathedral.
We took the minibus from Plaza Isabel la Católica to the Alhambra, and entered through the Puerta de la Justicia (Justice Gate) which is closer to the Nasrid Palace.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed so you can get Alhambra tickets from the hotel😉

We stayed at the Alhambra Palace, on the hill, near the Alhambra. Nice hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Anacapri last October. It is a lovely hotel, centrally located, with excellent service. It Is a three-star hotel with a nice, if basic breakfast. I agree if you want something more upscale and special, look at the Parador at the Alhambra.

One note since you mentioned that good internet was important to you, this was an issue for us at the Hotel. The Internet was pretty slow. It is okay for email, but if you need to download an application (like I did for the Alhambra), it felt more like dial-up speeds. It may have improved since last year.

El Ladron De Agua. Very nice, art filled boutique style and right on Carrera Del Darro, an easy walk to both the downtown (Cathedral area) and the Albayzin. Also close to the road up to the Alhambra - we walked to the Alhambra, but it's steep, and the minibus leaves from the square right near the hotel.

The Parador in the Alhambra itself is lovely - I haven't stayed there but went for dinner. I personally wouldn't choose to stay there - it is very convenient for the Alhambra but a bit removed from the rest of the town. I preferred being able to walk from the hotel to a variety of sights, restaurants, and bars. Being in the midst of the life of the city - and I find Granada really good for that. But the parador is gorgeous and might fit your needs better than mine!

Rob,
I would recommend (based on personal experience) staying at the Parador. Be sure to check out their specials for those over 55 ( special pricing and includes complimentary breakfast each morning....ask if you do not see the promos on their web site). Our room was lovely and included a little French balcony that overlooked the vast gardens. Service in the restaurants was flawless, and the food incredible.

At the time we stayed, a few years ago, the Parador had Alhambra tickets for guests on a first-come basis, but we did not chance it and arranged our tickets ahead of time.

A shuttle (or long walk) into town, but we found the convenience and beauty of being right on the Alhambra grounds sooooo nice. It was quiet at night, and convenient to drop by our room during the day.

With 3 nights in Granada and one afternoon/evening at the Alhambra (per your other post), I would choose to stay in town rather than at the Alhambra. The Alhambra is at the top of a very steep hill. It's accessible by bus, taxi, or walking paths, but it's a bit of an effort to get up there. Since you'll have more time during your stay actually away from the Alhambra, I'd choose to stay down lower where it will be easier to wander to restaurants and other sights.

We stayed in an apartment near the Plaza Nueva, which was an ideal place for us for 6 nights. The Hotel Anacapri was right around the corner, so I agree with the other posters on its great location. We walked up to the Alhambra from our apartment (maybe a 10 min walk, maybe a bit less). If up is too much for you, take a taxi or bus. Downhill is actually a nice stroll, especially at night (the path is well-lit and full of people).

Enjoy your stay; Granada is my favorite city in Spain!

Hotel Boutique Puerta de las Granadas nice hotel 4 minute walk to Alhambra.

They got us Alhambra tickets with a few days notice.
AC Granada is also very nice with an amazing breakfast buffet.
Would imagine the AC could get tickets also.
Both hotels in great area.

Make sure you go to Los Italiano for their famous Casata ice cream. Heavenly!

We loved Hotel Anacapri. It is very well situated. Close to everything, including a public bus that takes you directly to the Alhambra.

Please sign up to do a few walking tours. We especially enjoyed our night tour of the Arab quarter, the Albayzin.

Rob,

Would highly recommend the NH Victoria Granada. Great location in the middle of the city, easily walk able to restaurants and bars, and a top notch staff.
