Hello! Our family of six (parents and young adult children) is visiting Granada this summer for the first time. We arrive June 6 and leavie June 9, We just realized that our two full days there coincide with the Corpus Christi parades. We will be staying near the Cathedral. While this will be a fantastic experience we are wondering how this will alter our experience. Will it be difficult to move around the city? Will the sites (particularly the Alhambra) be open? Restaurants? Shops? Cave flamenco shows? Should we consider changing our hotel to one outside the two parade routes? Changing our visit dates? Lots of questions sorry! Any advice and insight is welcome! Thank you!
If there´s one thing about Spain, anywhere, is that any religious festivities (and now is more a tradition than a real religious feeling) imply the massive assistance of locals to bars and restaurants. In Granada it´s a whole week of all kind of activities (many of them for kids of all ages), access will be restricted to certain places only during the parades and shows, but mainly to vehicles (and you´re in a pedestrian area, I believe). Stay, enjoy, you´re going to love it.
I think your lucky to be going during a festival, I would not change your hotel. I love Granada and always go on a weekend just for extra excitment, dancing in the street, wedding parties, etc. Of course bring ear plugs for sleep and order your Alhambra tickets as far in advance as you can. It is a toursit town so everything will be open. Sounds like so much fun! J
Thank you both for taking the time to answer my questions. It is very much appreciated! We are very much looking forward to our time in Granada!
