Granada > Antequeras St Ana > Ronda by Train

Renfe website shows for September 14 an 8:43 - 10:17 train Granada to Antequeras St Ana and an 11:18 - 12:20 train continuing Antequeras St Ana to Ronda. The website does not show this particular connection if I enter Granada to Ronda.

The website shows earlier and later direct trains for Granada to Ronda, but I prefer the 8:43 time, if it is doable.

So, basically, I am asking if this doable.

I have read about disruption on the Granada to Antequeras St Ana portion and the need to take a bus. I am guessing the disruption continues, and the need to travel by bus from Granada to A. St. Ana continues.

Does my train ticket Granada to A. St. Ana assure me of a seat on the bus?

Is it obvious at the Granada train station where to take the bus?

Does the bus arrive in time for the 11:18 connection?

Thank you.

Hi John,

Renfe website shows for September 14 an 8:43 - 10:17 train Granada to
Antequeras St Ana and an 11:18 - 12:20 train continuing Antequeras St
Ana to Ronda. The website does not show this particular connection if
I enter Granada to Ronda.

The website shows earlier and later direct trains for Granada to
Ronda, but I prefer the 8:43 time, if it is doable.

I think this part of your question was already addressed on your previous post here:
https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/spain/train-granada-to-ronda

To reiterate the answer given previously: Yes, you can buy your tickets separately; Granada (departing @8:43 am) >> Antequera Santa Ana, and Antequera Santa Ana (departing @ 11:18am) to Ronda.
You will just have to wait an hour, at the Antequera station, before boarding the train heading to Ronda.

Does my train ticket Granada to A. St. Ana assure me of a seat on the bus?

Yes, of course!

However, when I search the Renfe website for your travel destination; Granada >> Antequera Santa Ana, (on September 14th), it does not show the small red exclamation point within the circle (icon next to the time of departure), where it explains about traveling by bus.

Perhaps the railroad renovations may be completed sometime in August (I checked different dates on the Renfe site), so you may be traveling via train & not by bus on this route.

Is it obvious at the Granada train station where to take the bus?

This question may be a nonissue, (as explained above) however, you may want to arrive at the train station 15-20 minutes prior to departure, and ask (a Renfe representative) where the bus is located.

Thank you, Priscilla.

As you pointed out, I indeed have been a bit uncertain about this leg of my trip.

I figured that yes I could buy separate tickets for each connection, that yes I would travel by bus for the first connection, that yes my ticket for the first connection would assure me a seat on the bus, and that yes if I go to the station with plenty of time I can figure out where the bus is.

What I was mostly uncertain about was whether the bus connection would arrive in time for the train connection, since there was a separate ticket for each connection rather than a single ticket for the entire journey. I guess another way to ask this is whether the bus is likely to arrive by the stated arrival time on the train ticket so that I could make the train connection.

I just don't know what the driving time might be for the bus.

At this point, I think I am over worrying about this. If the bus connection arrives too late for the train connection, I'll figure it out then.

Thank you again for responding.

John,

I understand...I don't like uncertainty either, especially when traveling to a new place.

I actually called Renfe tonight, after writing my reply to you, & I was told that the railway renovations may be completed before your date of travel.

When I asked about the bus, it was explained to me that the bus should arrive at the same time indicated on
the Renfe site.

So, if you plan to travel from Granada to Antequera on the train (or bus), departing from the train station at 8:43am, you should arrive to Antequera at around 10:20am.
Besides, the connecting train to Ronda will be departing from Antequera at 11:18am, a whole hour after the arrival of the bus or train from Granada!

Just think... What's the worse case scenario? If you miss the 11:18 train (unlikely), you can always take the next train to Ronda ;-)

Wishing you a fabulous trip!

P.S.
Did you already book your tickets to the Alhambra? If not, don't delay ;-)

Priscilla - - - Thank you again. I shall think of you and generous support as my wife and I travel worry free from Granada to Ronda.

And yes indeed, we do have our Alhambra tickets.
