Going to Barcelona with luggage safe?

We will be arriving in Barcelona in early morning and the villa our group rented in Sitges will not be available until 4pm the same day.

Should we rent a car or go by bus to Barcelona city center? Any ideas as to what we should do with our luggages and time until we can check in?

Is it safe to walk around Barcelona with our luggages?

My friends and I walked around in July with no problem- except it was annoying carrying it around. But you may want to see if where you are staying will hold your luggage until check in!

As kthlnkitty2002 mentions is rather annoying than unsafe.

Still, you have two options:

(1) Go directly to Sitges... it's a lovely town and less busy than Barcelona: http://infocatalonia.eu/w/ibDWG and walk around there, and leave Barcelona for another day without luggage. There's direct bus from the airport: http://www.monbus.cat/en/

(2) Take the train to Sants station -the main hub in Barcelona- use the lockers there to leave your luggage, then go to the centre from there using the metro. Trains to Sitges do depart from Sants too therefore it's ideal for you. http://www.rodalies.tk

I suggest you check with the villa in Sitges and see if you can leave the luggage there...Most places do in fact allow that. Then explore the area...not a large city, but lots to explore. the church, the shops, the restaurants, etc. Do Barcelona on another trip when you have more time. You will not have enough time to really see much of the city.

If you must absolutely see Barcelona, or at least part of it, leave the suitcases at the train station....do not try to lug them around the city!! Impossible to do much with them in tow.

I see no reason not to check out the city some that day before heading to Sitges. Do as Enric suggested; there is a luggage room at Sants Station. If flying into Barcelona, you can take the train into Sants, drop off your bags and then the Metro into the city center. Walk around and explore until you are ready to head to Sitges. Catch the Metro back to Sants, pick up your bags and catch your train to Sitges. Easy peasy!
