We are planning on going to Puerto Sherry, in Puerto Santa Maria. We are planning to fly into Madrid, then take a train to Jerez , rent a car and drive to the coast. We thought this might be easier than navigating Madrid, return car to Jerez , take train to Barcelona to meet RST group. Any experience with transfers? Better to get tickets now?
I fly to Jerez quite often. Is there a reason you cannot just book fights direct to Jere, with a connection in Madrid, rather than having to go to Madrid city and take a train?
I highly recommend renting the car at Jerez airport from SIXT. You can then return the car at Jerez airport and take a flight to Barcelona. If the flights from there do not work for you, take the direct Vueling flight from Sevilla to Barcelona to meet your group.
Ekscrunchy beat me to it. Fly directly into Jerez de la Frontera. The airport is small and only 10-15 minutes outside of town.
There isn’t a lot to see in Puerto de Santa María. Its cathedral is fair and there is a nice small castle. I used to visit it frequently when I lived there decades ago. Last time I was there was 2011 when Spain was having a recession. Hopefully it’s better now.
Thank you both very much. Will take your advice and take the flights. I want this to be a fun trip! Not stressed to the max.
Is this for this year? You don’t have your flights to Spain yet? Since the tour ends in Madrid can you do it at the end? We did this tour last year. It was great. We went to Monserrat for a day trip before the tour. You will spend some time commuting to get back to the start with your current plan
