I am in Madrid with a global eurail pass. I am told I need to pay a 14 euro reservation fee for round trip to Toledo and reservation fees for other locations I want to travel. Does this sound legit? Frank
Very likely. Did you not read the terms and conditions of the pass?
Yes, but I was confused. When I activated the pass at the airport train station there was no additional fees to ride a train into town. I read in one of the books that some places will direct you to pay reservation fees when they aren't required. I just wanted to make sure that wasn't happening. I paid extra before I left the US for a night train from Granada to Barcelona. I just did't expect that other, more straight forward trips would require additional fees. As far I know, my trips will not be on high speed trains. Just need to be prepared if the three month global pass will continue adding additional costs to the trip.
Get used to those extra fees. Eurail passes are a shambolic waste of $$$. Did you read this before you made the purchase?
