We are going on a tour to Gibraltar from Spain for one day. I plan on only purchasing a lunch/beverage. Do I need to get pounds or will they accept euros? Appreciate any one recently being there and their experience.
When we were there two years ago, it was strictly pounds but we had been in London earlier so had a few left over. I think credit cards were easily accepted so just use a credit card or hit an ATM for 50 pounds or whatever you need. If they accept euro it will be at an exchange rate to your disadvantage although for small amount it would not make that much difference. Don't think you can automatically assume everyone will take euro.
Another question:
Any RECENT tourists to Gilbraltar....how many pounds would I need for a moderate lunch with a few pints... say at a pub for two adults? Round figure.
We visited Gibraltar for a day in March as a last minute decision and found that at most places you could pay with either euros or pounds. Most places also accept credit cards, so you wouldn't need to worry about having cash. As for your question about how much money, I would say £30-£40 for lunch and a couple of pints should be adequate.
It's my understanding that there is a Gibraltar pound that is issued by the central bank there. If true and you get pounds from an ATM they could be Gibraltar pounds that would be difficult to spend anywhere else. At least that's what the situation is in Scotland. I think you can change Scottish pounds for the "real" ones at banks in England. English pounds are accepted in all of Scotland. The coins in use are the same throughout.
Do they have street food trucks or vendors....actually all I want is a good English meat pie or something I don't have to sit all day in a restaurant...can eat on the go and see the sights.
There are a lot of pubs to choose from, and you needn't sit in one all day. Just eat your meat pie and leave. A quick google and you will know what is in store. Even if one is available, do you really want to eat from a truck?. You can do that at home, I would think. You will be in an outpost of the British Empah, after all!
Gibraltar banknotes are pounds sterling. They can however be difficult to exchange particularly in Spain.
We went last year and I am pretty sure most little shops and take-out food places gave prices in pounds and euro. Not sure about restaurants, since we got pounds since we stayed a few days. I would just try to find a place and use credit card.
