We are thinking of either a day trip tour to Gibraltar from Marbella or just getting there on our own. If we do our own, are there taxis etc to take you up to the top? Do you need to reserve in advance? We’d be there in March. Thanks so much!

Yes you can take a taxi to the top of the rock or you can reach it via cable car (either round trip or one way and walk down) or take a private guide that can either be booked ahead or pick one of the many guides that tout their business once you exit passport control.
I've taken a private guide twice, both occasions were by guides offering their services outside passport control. One guide was good the other not so much.

We took a taxi (they are there when you walk across the border), and it was like a guided tour. Quite fun.
