Getting to Madrid Airport from city center

We'll be taking a tour that ends in Madrid and looking at getting from our downtown hotel to the airport, there is a train, but it is painful just getting to the train, dragging luggage, or should we just take a taxi from the hotel?

I suppose if we took the train we would have to take a taxi to the train station.

Madrid is one of the cities that has a set rate for taxi to the airport. Don't recall the rate, but reasonable.

I used Uber or Bolt. It didn't break the bank. I have also used the pink metro line.

We always stay at the Puerta Del Sol and take the metro. It does require a couple line changes and many people find that too much of a hassle. If you have have a lot of luggage or large suitcases, then it may not be your best choice.

We flew INTO Madrid on Delta a few weeks ago. Even though our hotel was just behind Atocha station and train goes right to it, fortunately I knew ahead of time that Delta comes in to the "old" T1/T2/T3" complex and the train does not stop there. So taking the train would have involved a shuttle over to T4. Since Delta is about the only international airline coming into T3, customs, immigration, luggage was a breeze. We took a taxi to hotel. Total time gate to hotel was just over an hour, with the taxi being about 25 minutes (early on a Friday 2 weeks ago).

The flat rate was 33eu. Very glad we did the taxi.
Be sure you know what terminal, especially if on Delta.

Also you can check Cabify, it is the Spanish equivalent of UBER. I believe you can also check BOLT!
