Getting from Barcelona to Valencia, train or bus or ?

We will be in Barcelona over Christmas. On the day after Christmas 12/26 we need get from Barcelona to Valencia.

I've been searching train schedules on Rome2Rio and the Renfe website expecting to see the Euromed train running that route on that day but I haven't seen any trains scheduled, just much longer trips that connect in Madrid. (6+ hours)

Does anyone have any insights on the Euromed train service? Google AI says it runs everyday in December with the exception of limited service on Christmas day. Maybe AI is wrong, or maybe we'll plan to take the bus.

Have you looked at www.thetrainline.com? That is one of the train booking sites man in seat 61 recommends. It is showing multiple trains that day. We haven't used thetrainline for Spain but have for other countries. The website and/or their app worked great.

Thank you. Yes I’ve checked trainline. I see one train on 12/26 leaving at 10am. It appears to be a 5-6 hour journey and it seems like it’s unavailable for purchase. This train doesn’t appear to be the faster Euromed train that should take around 3 hours.

Perhaps there is a schedule change coming. When I go to Renfe, it does not show trains after Dec 14.
I got an error message but could not copy it to translate it--did you get that?

I did see that error message and was also unable to translate. I believe it says something about “sorry for the inconvenience”. I have to imagine the euromed trains haven’t been scheduled yet. I’ll give it some time before looking for alternatives.

Yeah I went back and grabbed it and it was a nonspecific error message so hopefully someone can confirm if the schedule just needs to be updated.

The place to book this is www.renfe.com. Nobody else will be able to sell you tickets for trains that RENFE has not opened for booking yet.

RENFE is know for opening trains for booking it rather irregular times, and often at short notice. The line from Barcelona to Valencia is being upgraded, that means various building sites, and constantly changing schedules. When I did that route I ended up booking just 2 weeks before travel.

So my advise is to just wait a few weeks. The direct trains will eventually become available. It is a nice ride.
