My GERD has recently grown worse. I currently take 2 omoprezole 20 mg tablets a day. I’m concerned about the best way to handle reflux in Spain. I love to eat and drink wine, but know it may be hard to be upright for 3 hours after my last meal/snack. Anyone have good tips regarding this? Thank you.
I have GERD too - and it doesn’t matter which country I travel to , the restrictions are the restrictions- I used to love red wine , now I am limited to half a glass which I dilute with water ! I also take a Prerelief tablet before I eat anything that may be a problem . I avoid eating a lot of things , but I still can eat many things so it’s not that bad . I can cheat once in awhile but I am still careful 95 % of the time . Be sure not to eat too much at once - a full stomach tends to reflux more - also as you know don’t eat for a couple hours before bed .
I take same medicine as you do and same dose , but I still pop a Pepcid Complete once in awhile . Bring your own - it’s hard to find exactly what you want when you want it .
Take the time for your main meal in the afternoon, and stick to small portions of tapas, salad, tortilla espagnol in the evening. Be sure to drink still water during the meals you sip wine. Snack on those wonderful Spanish almonds.
I agree about doing the main meal at mid-day, though that often really cuts into sightseeing time. The late dinner hour in Spain is a serious problem for me, because I have sleep issues as well as GERD. On my 2016 trip I had an awful lot of yogurt-and-fruit dinners, sometimes supplemented by other odds and ends easily picked up at a supermarket.
Thank uoi for the good suggestions. They all sound like good ideas. I’m practicing not snacking at night; very challenging. Oh the joys of getting older.
