Genal Valley in October/November

Hello, we are in the beginning stages of planning for a fall trip to Ireland and Spain. We have a flight arriving in Dublin on October 7 and leaving Madrid November 21. At this point I envision approximately 6 weeks of on the ground travel excluding flight and flight prep days. 2-3 weeks in Ireland and 3-4 weeks in Spain. We are definitely slow travelers so no whirlwind days.
We are very interested in doing some walking in the Genal Valley during the fall color of the chestnut forests. I realize fall color is pretty variable but looking for anyone with experience there.
We have been to Spain several times to major cities but would like to do a loop this time to Salamanca, Extremudera, and the Genal Valley. We will be taking a lowcost airline from Dublin to Spain so it is possible to start the trip in Madrid or Malaga in order to get the best of walking in the valley with less heat and less rain…..

Sounds fantastic. Are you looking to do any hiking in Extremadura? I just returned from Caceres, where I took day trips to hike in Monfrague and Tajo parks. Both were outstanding!

I visited Ronda years ago, twice, and also considered returning this year to stay in Gaucin (which seems to have some lovely accommodations). Best of luck with your search--I look forward to hearing about it!

What a great plan! We spent three months walking in the Genal Valley and loved it. You will not run out of choices for trails! Do you know about the app Wikiloc? It has hundreds of listings for the Genal Valley (and millions for Spain in general). Zoom in on the map to see more links to trails.
