Any suggestions for three teenage boys (ages 17, 15, and 14) in Madrid, Seville, and Granada? My husband and I lived in Spain so we are familiar with the country and are doing the obvious sightseeing, but in order to keep our teenagers happy, we will need to build in some activities--similar to Gladiator School in Rome. :) I searched for Bullfighting School but only found a corporate outing, and Madrid Real is playing away the week we are there.
I don't know your sons, but when I was that age, I might have been interested in the "classic masterpieces" at the Prado, but would have really loved the Black Paintings of Goya. If they balk at the idea of an art museum, make sure they see these.
Here are a few ideas that my own boys would have loved:
Even though Real Madrid is playing away the week you are there, you could still tour the Santaigo Bernabéu stadium.
There is a Medieval Train from Madrid to Sigüenza that you can consider. The train ride is an hour and twenty minutes and the train will be filled with damsels, knights and troubadours. Once you arrive in Sigüenza you are escorted to see the castle, the plaza mayor and other interesting sites. Later in the day you return to Madrid. Sigüenza medieval train. This link has the dates from 2018. Check to see if it is offered this year. There is also a Cervantes train experience that goes to nearby Alcalá de Henares. Learn about El Quijote. Speaking of Cervantes, if you are in Toledo and have a car, consider a visit to Consuegra with its many windmills and castle on the hill overlooking the small town and the wide open plains. That is a daytrip I think teens would enjoy.
Near Granada look for hiking or mountain biking opportunities. Maybe some kayaking or rafting.
There is a highly ranked toro and corrida activity listed on Trip Advisor for Sevilla that takes you to visit a ranch that breeds bulls. I have never done it and know only what I quickly saw when I did a search but since you mentioned bullfighting it is called Les Visites del Campo Bravo.
I’m not sure what would interest your sons but I plan to balance my young adult children and my trip with a combination of the major sites and fun activities in Andalucia such as paragliding, hiking Los Cahorros and the Caminito del Rey. I have 3 daughters but they are extremely adventurous so this is what we plan on doing to allow me to see what I want while affording then a fun adventure. I’ve read that there is ziplining neat Madrid so that may be an option if your soms enjoy that type of activity.
Real Madrid isnt the only team. Maybe Athletico is playing or Rayo.
