I know mountain weather is unpredictable, but is there a good source for the weather here?
I tried looking at the website for the funicular, but did not see anything. It’s a 2 hour drive from where I’m staying in Cangas de Onis, so want to have a good idea before I choose which day to go.
We did that drive on September 12th. We used the same sites we use in the USA - Weather.com and Accuweather - which were accurate. The day was foggy but nonetheless the drive was beautiful. It cleared some when we arrived to Fuente De but we opted not to go up on the funicular due to poor visibility. Still, it is a gorgeous setting and we are glad we went.
I can’t help with weather sites- it’s a roll of the dice in the mountains- but if you decide on a day and want to get up the funicular at a particular time, you can buy the ticket 24 hours in advance. Any less than that and you get to wait in line and go up whenever there’s an opening. There is a cafe and gift shop there while you wait and the view is beautiful (if there aren’t clouds), but on a clear day there will be a line. There were at least 30 people in line by 9:45 when I went up in early June because it was a nice clear day. Luckily I already had the ticket for the first ride up at 10am. It might not be a big problem if you aren’t hiking but something to keep in mind if you don’t want to hang out there waiting for your turn.
