From Sevilla to Paris

Hi everyone,
I am thinking of taking the Best of Spain RS tour next spring; after the tour I would like to spend a few days in Paris before heading home. I can think of three options to get from Sevilla to Paris:

  1. Take the AVE train from Sevilla to Madrid; stay over night and fly to Paris the next day.
  2. Take the AVE train from Sevilla to Madrid; then fly to Paris the same day.
  3. Fly from Sevilla to Paris

Option 1 will be more relaxing and there will be more flight options from Barajas Airport; but I feel like it would be kind of a waste of one day which I could have spent in Paris. There're non-stop flights by Transavia and HOP! which will get me to Paris mid afternoon. For now I'm leaning toward option 2 and 3; but I would appreciate any inputs as if one of these options is better than the others.

I appreciate any inputs!

A quick look at Google Flights for a random day next month shows nonstops on Vueling and Transavia that get you to Paris that same morning, and another on Air France that afternoon. That would be the way to minimize travel time and maximize Paris time.

I was very tired after this great tour and spent several more days in Sevilla, Cordoba, and Madrid before flying home. There's a lot more to see and do in Spain if you decide not to rush off to Paris.

Hi Dick,

Thanks for your quick response! I've never flown on European low-cost airlines; but judging on Skytrax 2023 ranking Transavia (a subsidiary of Air France–KLM group) might be a good choice even after adding up all the fees (yes they now charge a fee for standard-size cabin bag). I especially like their generous change flight policy for their 'Max' fare. Those Air France flights are actually operated by their low-cost regional airlines HOP; not sure why they charge twice as much. Most likely I will just fly from Sevilla to Paris; option 2 might be a bit risky as one can never predict the train's punctuality.

Yes staying extra days in Spain then fly home from Madrid is definitely an attractive option; but I always ended all my previous European trips in Paris just so I can bring back some French chocolates (Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse and Jean-Paul Hévin are two of my favorites). Something to think about :)

Thanks again for your input!

I thought that I had reached a decision to fly from Sevilla to Paris (option 3); but now I am having second thought after doing some additional digging.

Apparently the small Sevilla Airport is served by only a few low-cost airlines, and each of these airlines has a couple fights that depart in early afternoon (not including the very early ~7 AM flight) with the remaining last flight many hours later. If one's flight were to be canceled one will have to wait for a long time to get on the last flight. To make things complicated some of these airlines don't fly everyday. So I probably will go with option 1: take AVE train to Madrid (has many flights to Paris) and fly to Paris the next day.

Swiss and Belgium chocolates are good but personally I think France has some of the best chocolates in Europe (albeit expensive for the best brands); Italy also has some very nice chocolates too. I go to Paris not just for the chocolates; it's my favorite city in Europe :)
