Fresh fruit at La Boqueria Mercado Barcelona

Just arrived in Barcelona and first thing I had to try was fresh cut up mango from Natural Fruit in The Mercado. Then remembered when I was in Rome 2 years ago I had a horrible 4 day bout of Diarrhea after eating fresh pineapple and melons.
Rick said when in doubt only eat thick skinned fruit. I’m surrounded by the most delicious looking cut up fresh fruit at this outdoor market. Can I enjoy without worry?? Anyone ever gotten sick from fresh fruit or veggies in Barcelona?

This is not a street stall in a banana republic with no health measures. You can confidently eat anything you can see in Mercat de La Boqueria -or any other market for that matter. But again, buy a whole fruit, not a sliced one.

I don't know that I've bought cut-up fruit specifically at La Boqueria, but I've done it rather often in Europe, including in Spain, and never gotten sick. It's always possible for food to be mis-handled, but I don't think it's any more likely in Barcelona than here at home. The idea of having a cup of mixed fruit is a lot more appealing to me than just grabbing an apple or a banana.

I avoided cut-up fruit on my recent trip to Istanbul and Bursa (where the tap water is considered unsafe), but I confess I ate some raw veggies. Again, no problems.
