We will be in Spain for a month, flying into Barcelona and out of Mallorca. We would like to fly from Valencia to Mallorca for a few days. I am seeing flights for approx 50E - is this correct? Seems so inexpensive. Just want to make sure I am looking at the right thing. Thanks!

That seems expensive to me, what time of year? I would expect a budget airline to offer flights for around €15 - 20.

Sure, it is correct. It depends on the airline as well as being sure you are pricing what you need. Most of the budget airlines offer cut-rate prices, that are fine if you have a few things in a purse or day bag, and nothing else. If you need a small carry on size bag, that may be extra, and a larger checked bag more yet.
As an example, I fly Ryanair once or twice a year, the way I pack, I am usually just over the 10 kilo limit, and my American bag is probably a few centimeters over the allowed size. So, with a 30 euro ticket, I take the "Plus" bundle (include a 20 kilo checked bag, airport check-in, and a reserved seat assignment) and it runs maybe 50 euro. This is still cheap and no need to worry about the bag being checked.
