Flying from Seville to Barcelona. How early do you need to arrive at the airport?

When flying from Seville to Barcelona how soon before flight must you arrive at the airport. Is one hour enough? I'm not sure how big this airport is and if you need a lot of extra time prior to the flight.

Not a hugely busy airport, with only about 50 flights per day, mostly domestic. Always defer to your airline advice, but I would think 60mins a bare minimum.

One thing to keep in mind if you're flying RyanAir for that leg is that they have a weird ID check kind of thing for non-EU passport holders that takes some time. We had to do it at Barcelona and it was hard to find where to go, which wasted at least 20 minutes for us. Then we had to wait in line for the passport check and that took another 20 minutes. In Barcelona, the line was not at the bag check area or anything...it was actually the line where people can walk up and buy a ticket on the spot from an agent. If you looked carefully, you could see a tiny sign that said something like "passport check" taped in the window.

As far as I'm aware, only RyanAir does this. And it took us 40 minutes and I had come prepared and was aware of this passport check .

Good to know. I think we would fly vueling. I'm just trying to decide if it will be faster to fly than to take the train. It certainly appears that it would be but some of the European airports that i have been to there have been huge delays and a lot of disorganization so I want to be sure I am doing the most time effective thing.

Keep in mind that Valerie flew out of Barcelona (huge airport) and into Sevilla (small airport). You're going the other way, so it should be pretty simple for you.

Flying versus train from Sevilla to Barcelona will be only slightly faster. Maybe a half hour or so depending on a few factors. Arrival time at the airport is based in part on the airline policies. Most airlines have cut-off times for checked bags, usually an hour or thereabouts. Miss that and you cannot check a bag and may lose your flight (and that means your bag is checked, not that you are standing in line). With carry-ons, you need to be at the boarding gate within their timeframe, which is often well before the posted departure time. Sevilla is not a big airport but I would never consider arriving with less than 60 minutes if carrying on only. And as noted above, some discount airlines require you to check in before your flight, and will have a time limit on that. Know also that most discount airlines strictly enforce their various rules, so read any fine print carefully.

Renfe's best time is about 5.5 hours (and you still have to get to/from train stations). Sevilla center to airport by taxi 0.5, 1.5 hrs wait time, 1.5 flight, 0.5 bus to Barcelona center (Plaza Catalonia) = 4 hours.

Thanks for the info. I think we will fly. It will still be a fIr bit shorter in the long run if all goes well and will allow us extra time in Seville.

The Aerobus from the Barcelona airport to Plaza Catalunya is easy to find, leaves every 5-10 minutes, and is very comfortable. That's fine if you're staying near there. If you're closer to the train station, that may be a better way to get to the city. Post a new question if you want suggestions.
