Fly into Madrid, Barcelona or Seivilla - best city to fly into / out of.

Hello,

I have about 13-15 days in Spain and figuring out where the best place to fly in and out of ? I am doing Madrid, Barcelona, Sevillia and Granada

I am coming from the US (west coast) and was thinking

1) Fly into Madrid -> train to sevilla -> train Granada-> Fly to Barcelona -> Fly out
2) Fly into Barcelona -> Fly Granada->Train to Sevilla -> Train to Madrid -> Fly out
3) Fly into Sevilla -> train to Granada -> train to madrid -> train to Barcelona -> Fly out

Any advantages / disadvantages to these options or considerations? All flights costs are relatively the same. Flying in/out of sevilla is slightly more expensive then barcelona/madrid. I didnt want to double back any locations so flying in and out of different cities. (also open to this if thats the logical choice?)

Thanks for the help!!!

In none of the four options do you mention Granada although you say you want to go there. With the places you want to visit, I don’t think it matters which you fly into and out of, or which order you see them in. Just don’t fly into and out of the same airport since that wouldn’t make sense with your planned cities. I’d probably go with whichever is least expensive.

You don’t say when you are going. If it’s trending toward hotter weather hit Sevilla and surroundings first then head northward. Otherwise, fly open jaw, the best fare you can get. If you find a round trip fare beats that consider the costs of additional transportation, maybe another overnight, time lost doubling back. Spain is big.

Thanks for the input. We are going Nov 20th - Dec 2nd, so with that .. your point from a weather standpoint on maybe starting north (barcelona) and ending in South is more ideal. (Before it gets too cold)

Or did you mean to take advantage of the sun and start south then move up ?

The south is generally warmer but at that time of year its pretty much a moot point. The south can get very hot in the summer, but, for your dates focus on the ease of flights (layovers, etc.) and cost.

hi,
I had the same thoughts and finally decided on madrid/seville/granada/ barcelona.
I made the decision based on all the things I have on my "wish lists" and the time/energy involved with 4 cities in two weeks.
I figured hit the ground running in Madrid and by the time I'm in Barcelona I'll be more into the routine and be able to relax........food and drink.
From west coast to Madrid on sept 25th.

I don't think it makes a big difference as far at the on-the-ground itinerary. One may be marginally better because of train or flight schedules.

I would just look at connections and flight schedules. I would always prefer direct flights but if they aren't available to you for Madrid and/or Barcelona then look at connections. You may do better with using Sevilla. I would always prefer a European connection over the US, outbound because a delayed first flight could mean missing the only transatlantic flight. Make sure there are later flights in case of a delay. On the inbound flight, if you have a US connection, you have to go through passport control and customs, then take a domestic flight - maybe from another terminal. Also pay attention to the length of the connection time, allowing enough for all the procedures at the intermediate airport (security, immigration). If there's a delay on the return, the worst case is an overnight in the connecting city and getting home a day late. If you miss the connection on the outbound, you lose a day of your trip and the cost of the hotel for that night.
